Introducing The Talent You’re Missing
I’m excited to share the launch of my new eBook, The Talent You’re Missing: Merit-Based Hiring That Turns Disability Talent into Your Competitive Advantage. This book has been a long time in the making, shaped by more than two decades of working alongside people with disabilities as an advocate, employer, trainer, and community partner.
Why I Wrote This Book
For years, I have seen talented, capable people with disabilities overlooked, not because they lack skills or motivation, but because traditional hiring practices often focus on assumptions instead of ability. Too often, disability is treated as an afterthought in the workplace, something to “accommodate” later rather than something to consider from the beginning.
I wrote this book because I know, from experience, that when people with disabilities are given a fair chance, they are outstanding employees. They are loyal, reliable, detail-oriented, and deeply committed to their work. Businesses that take a merit-based approach to hiring don’t just do the right thing; they make better hiring decisions.
What the Book Is About
The Talent You’re Missing explores how merit-based hiring can help employers identify the best candidate for the job while reducing bias and expanding access to an often-overlooked talent pool.
Inside the book, readers will learn:
- Why disability talent is frequently missed in traditional hiring processes
- How bias and ableism can quietly influence interviews and evaluations
- What merit-based hiring looks like through a disability lens
- Practical ways to design jobs, interviews, and workplaces that welcome everyone
- How inclusion can become a true competitive advantage for businesses
The book also introduces readers to Ethan, a fictional but very real-to-life example of a talented job seeker with a disability. His story illustrates how focusing on skills, experience, and performance, rather than stereotypes, can completely change hiring outcomes.
Who This Book Is For
This eBook is written for employers, HR professionals, business owners, managers, and anyone involved in hiring decisions. It is also for advocates, educators, and job seekers who want a clearer understanding of how merit-based hiring can create real opportunity.
You don’t need to be a disability expert to benefit from this book. The goal is to make these concepts practical, approachable, and easy to apply.
